How to get help
Use the application link on the official Rental Assistance page and select the highest-priority assistance type. If the selector shows no available assistance, the page says the application limit has been reached and advises checking back because appointment slots are added. Call Social Services at 713-696-7900 for eligibility information. Requests are reviewed first come, first served.
Who this service helps
The official page lists Harris County residence, head-of-household status, household income below 80% of area median income, valid identification and Social Security documentation, proof of income, a valid lease or mortgage statement, and evidence of need such as a vacate notice, documented hardship, or exhausted income. The landlord or mortgage company must agree to work with the county and guarantee residency for the next 30 days, and the housing payee must provide a W-9. Citizenship or eligible-residency documentation may be required depending on the funding program.
