Who this service helps
The official page requires residence within Houston city limits on August 25, 2017; U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency for specified household members; first-time-homebuyer status or loss of a home due to Hurricane Harvey; an eight-hour HUD-approved homebuyer-education course; qualification for a fixed-rate mortgage from a recognized lender; household income at or below 120% of Area Median Income; and no registered-sex-offender status.

Cost / fees
Assistance may be up to $125,000. It is a no-interest forgivable loan secured by a lien; partial repayment may be due if the buyer sells or moves before completing the required occupancy period. Homeowner's insurance and flood insurance, when applicable, must be maintained during that period.
