How to get help
Apply to and be accepted by a Texas public institution; obtain military-service and applicable federal education-benefit documentation; complete the Hazlewood exemption application; and submit the required materials to the institution's financial-aid office. The institution makes the final eligibility decision.

Eligibility depends on Texas connection at entry to service, qualifying discharge and active-duty service, current Texas residence, available federal education benefits, loan-default status, eligible enrollment, and institutional academic-progress rules. Spouse, dependent, and Legacy qualifications have additional requirements.
