How to get help
Confirm every statutory condition, complete the petition and supporting information, file in the proper court, provide required notice, present the requested authority to the judge, obtain and preserve the signed order, and use the renewal or termination forms if the need continues or ends.
Who this service helps
For a qualifying adult caregiver who has cared for the child at home for at least 30 days, cannot obtain needed written authorization, has no available parent, conservator, or guardian able to consent, needs authority for the child's welfare, and expects no objection from the parent, conservator, or guardian. The filer must fit a relationship or authorization category stated in Chapter 35.
